Under broad direction, mentors a team of Software Testers that can be comprised of Manual and Automated Test Engineers and possibly junior developers and Technical Writers. Comprehensive understanding of all elements of a successful software development program. Including but not limited to Code Inspections, Manual Testing, Automated Testing, Functional Requirements, Design, Usability, Test plans and Results and Defect Management. He/She is an integral part of the planning of future release as in estimating efforts required in Testing and Documentation and advising on product improvements based on experience gained from previous releases and customer feedback. Job tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability or operations. Consequences of error are easily measured and can be confined. Skills are typically acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or similar discipline, and 4 years of related experience or through 8 years of software and/or development experience.

Overview:

An MWD/DD software tester plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of software applications used in Measurement While Drilling (MWD) and/or Directional drilling operations. They are responsible for testing and evaluating MWD/DD software, identifying software defects or issues, and working closely with the software development team to ensure that the software meets the required standards and functionalities. An MWD/DD software tester will leverage his domain expertise to mentor and guide the software team. MWD software testers perform various testing techniques and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions for the oil and gas industry.

Job Responsibilities:

•Product use case design: Work with stake holders such as product managers and operations to understand and capture the business needs and translate them to software requirements.

•Test Planning and Design: Collaborate with software developers and testers to develop test plans, test cases, and test scenarios based on the software requirements and industry standards.

•Test Execution: Perform functional, integration, regression, and performance testing of MWD software applications. Execute test cases manually or using automated testing tools, record and document test results, and report software defects using bug tracking systems.

•Test Automation: Collaborate with automation test teams to Identify opportunities for test automation and develop automated test scripts using appropriate tools and frameworks.

•Defect Tracking and Resolution: Work closely with the software development team to investigate and resolve software defects. Provide detailed information and documentation of identified issues, including steps to reproduce, expected behavior, and impact on the software application.

•Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, product owners, and subject matter experts, to clarify requirements, address questions, and ensure effective communication throughout the testing process.

•Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of the software testing process. Identify areas for process optimization, propose solutions, and implement best practices to enhance the quality and efficiency of software testing.

•Documentation: Create and maintain accurate and up-to-date test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test results. Provide comprehensive reports on testing activities, including coverage, defects found, and testing progress.

•Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to quality assurance standards, best practices, and industry regulations. Participate in code and design reviews to provide input on software quality and usability.

•Training and Support: Provide training and support to end-users or other stakeholders as needed, including assistance in the setup and configuration of software applications.

Requirements:

•5-10 years of Field experience as MWD/DD engineer.

•Bachelor's degree in computer science, Petroleum Engineering, Geosciences, or a related field. Relevant experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered.

•Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and isolate software defects.

•Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment.

•Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Desired Qualifications:

•Familiar with software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices.

•Experience in testing web-based applications, cloud applications, or software applications in the oil and gas industry.

•Familiarity in test planning, test case design, and test execution.

•Familiarity with test automation tools and frameworks, such as Cypress.

•Knowledge of bug tracking and project management tools, such as Azure devops.

•Experience with programming languages, such as Java, Python, or C#.

•Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and Agile methodologies.
