Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is anticipating expanding the team to support upcoming work in the Voisey's Bay, NL office. We are seeking a Senior/Intermediate Mechanical Technologist / Designer for a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation.

The ideal candidate will have a diploma and experience in the mining industry. As the Mechanical Technologist / Designer you will be responsible for construction oversight and drafting supporting facility-based in an active industrial environment.

Other responsibilities include:
  • Drafting of mechanical systems to include taking accurate field measurements
  • Revise and / or develop detailed piping and instrument diagrams, piping drawings and other mechanical drawings
  • Development of construction work packages
  • Comply with all company and client procedures, engineering practices, and other standards
  • Work closely with engineers, contractors, and team members to develop project documentation
  • Field as-built measurement and design as project requires
  • Administration duties such as meeting minutes and document control organization
  • Aid in the support of construction activities being executed by Vale's various construction contractors
  • Ensure contractors compliance with engineering issued design requirements and Vale standards
  • Actioning of RFI's and deviation requests for contractors
  • Attendance at construction update meetings as an engineering representative
  • Attendance and contribution in client and / or construction contractor safety meetings
  • Meeting or exceeding the company's safety standards


Skills / Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in Engineering Technology / Drafting
  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience drafting mechanical systems for process facilities
  • Ability to gather field data, able to wear required PPE for filed measurement / as-built drawings
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD and CadWorx
  • Ability to work with construction contractors to achieve project requirements
  • Excellent communication (written and spoken) and time-management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada, without sponsorship from Wood
