Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is recruiting Rigging Supervisor to join our growing team in Brunei.

Purpose/Role
  • To provide safe and effective Supervision and co-ordination of rigging services in line with company and client procedures.
  • To coordinate and supervise labour
  • To ensure the highest quality of workmanship
  • To ensure all work is carried out in a safe and productive manner
  • Must be 'hands on'

Key aims abd objectives
  • To safely supervise and manage all rigging services in support of offshore construction and work activities in line with operating procedures, specifications and legislation.

Prime responsibilities and duties
  • Directly responsible to Construction Superintendent and LOLER FP for the team of Riggers
  • Responsible for the supervision of all rigging activities
  • Fully conversant in the art of rigging and must be able to define and control all rigging classifications
  • To be aware of and be familiar with system of working when undertaking construction works
  • Be aware of and practice in full the requirements of total safety in all operations to achieve best results at all times
  • Must be capable of working independently both on board or away from the vessel either on anchor handling tug or in the Fabrication yard
  • Selection of correct slings and shackles for all lifts
  • Removal from service and destruction of any slings which require replacement
  • Slinging and controlling lifts by the crane or winches in safe and efficient manner
  • Able to determine suitable rigging devices and implementing the task to safely and effectively position pipework equipment etc.
  • Erecting and operating a gin-pole or "A" frame to lift, place or erect pipework equipment or derricks
  • Must be familiar with and taking charge of anchor buoy and pennant recovery and handling on board during spread moves
  • For ensuring that all rigging equipment is properly maintained, inspected and that all certification is current.
  • Must be able to assemble all types of pipe work, welded, screwed or flanged in a neat and workmanlike manner.
  • A working understanding of the statutory lifting regulations
  • Support Nationalisation Programme and development of local personnel
  • Ensure Risk Assessment and Tool Box Talks completed and implemented

Experience

Essential:
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience of which 6 years have been spent in a supervisory capacity on offshore and offshore locations.

Desirable:
  • Preferably a Local national within Brunei

  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and provide direction to ensure subordinate staff comply with operating manual and relevant procedures
  • Flexible - able to comply with company and client requirements
  • Ability to work with other disciplines
  • Confident - ability to work unsupervised in execution of task

  • Has a desire to learn and develop within the role and also develop others as part of nationalisation programme

Competencies - generic
  • Shall be able to read, write and speak English
  • Possesses a good understanding of safe working practises, policies and regulations and can demonstrate commitment to safe working at all times
  • Comply with operational and safety manuals and procedures

Competencies - technical
  • Must be aware of the workings of most types of equipment used in construction work and be familiar with safe working loads, care, proper storage, of equipment and training of all other riggers on board to do likewise.
  • He must be able to use hot cutting gear wherever necessary.
  • He must be able to splice an eye on a manila and synthetic fibre and wire rope, and be fully competent with all knots, bends and hitches.
  • Can demonstrate a high standard in completion of tasks associated with the role of Rigger as defined in associated job specification.
  • Ability to recognise change
