Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently searching for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to support our Consulting group in the Houston, TX office. The Principal Geotechnical Engineer will assist the group personnel in developing and delivering work scopes and fill a seller-doer role on an established team.

The successful candidate must have a reputation in their field for quality project delivery and client satisfaction. The candidate should be capable of selling and performing work, flexible in assignments, willing to go offshore and be comfortable with the full life-cycle of a project (from initial pursuit through close-out). The candidate will be proficient in applicable codes and standards. The candidate will be knowledgeable in related engineering and science fields for management and coordination purposes.

The Principal Geotechnical Engineer shall act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for geotechnical engineering-related activities. She/He will be integrated in the Subsea team but will actively work collaboratively or directly with other functions and business groups.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Manage scope, schedule and budget throughout the life of a project.
  • Perform consulting, geotechnical engineering assessments, inspections, report writing, and cost estimating.
  • Client interaction for business development, presentations and consulting.
  • Coordinate with design teams to define work scope, schedule and budget.
  • Lead preparation of written proposals and pricing in subsea structures group.
  • Contact vendors; research literature and regulatory requirements; prepare or direct designs.
  • Direct, oversee and review the work of subcontractors and / or company employees - serve as lead technical reviewer.
  • Interact with specialists in other technical practice areas in support of multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Follow company safety standards, engineering processes and quality procedures.


Skills / Qualifications

  • Master's degree in engineering (Civil, Geotechnical, or Subsea), PhD degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years relevant geotechnical and subsea design experience.
  • Experience with conceptual and detailed foundation design.
  • Experience with finite element analysis of shallow and deep foundations.
  • Experience with the design of foundations in seismic areas.
  • Professional engineer license in Texas.
  • Proficient user of finite element analysis software (such as SACS or ANSYS or ABAQUS) for offshore geotechnics applications.
  • Proficient knowledge of offshore geotechnical code requirements.
  • Ability to lead, develop, and mentor junior staff.
  • Strong organizational and oral/written communication skills
  • Must be a US Citizen or authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood.
